Q. What is Flash?

Macromedia Flash Player is software that lets you view animated, interactive content on websites. The creators of many websites like to use Flash Player for motion graphics, animation, games, educational tools, video, music, and interactive programs such as shopping carts and order forms. To use these websites as intended—to see the “Flash content”—you have to download Flash Player to your computer. Flash Player becomes a part of your web browser, working in conjunction with your browser to enhance its capabilities.

You can think of Macromedia as a company that sells an artist’s kit, complete with paint brushes and paints. Web designers that buy the kit create animation, video, games, and other programs that you see and use. Macromedia itself doesn’t create the programs, with the exception of content found at the macromedia.com website.

Q. I have Version "X" Of The Flash Player Installed, Do I Need To Upgrade?

This siteuses Flash content built for the latest version of the Flash Player (Version 7 at the time of writing). There is an inbuilt process of player version detection that will prevent older players from attempting to render any of the content on this page. You will therefore need to upgrade your player if you intend to view the Flash content on this page.

Q. I Am Using Browser "X" and I have the Latest Version of Flash Installed. Why Can't I See Any Flash Content?

This site has been built to work specifically with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari on the Mac and PC. These browsers support a 'standards compliant' method of embedding Flash into a webpage. Also known as the 'satay' method, it uses the <object> tag to place Flash files. Unfortunately the latest version of Opera does not support such a method at the current time. If you are browsing with Opera please select the HTML Stream option.

Q. Can I override the Flash Detection Function?

Yes. By activating either the "Flash" or "HTML" streams on the top right hand side of the page, the auto-detect functions will be over-ridden and the page will load as you have specified regardless of whether you have the correct player installed or not. Obviously this may cause unexpected results for an unexperienced user.
